Unfortunately, the Sixers got eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals 4-1. Although fans can be happy considering the Sixers only won 28 games last year, the series could have easily been 4-1 in favor of the Sixers if not for careless errors that are typically associated with a younger team. There was no question the Sixers had more talent on the floor, but Boston’s tenacious defense caused turnovers that could have easily been avoided in the fleeting moments of Games 2,3, and 5.
Ultimately, the glaring issue with the current roster is their lack of a playmaker/ shot creator that can play perimeter defense and put points on the board. Luckily, there are two players that fit this mold in the upcoming NBA free agency period in addition to one player that is on the trading block. Those players are Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and of course, the greatest of all time, LeBron James. All three players are viable options for the Sixers as each have expressed interest towards playing for the organization.
With the continuing development of Embiid, Simmons, and Fultz in addition to another great wing player, the Sixers could be one of the favorites to win the NBA championship next season, if they could just get by the stacked roster of Boston(P.S. the Boston vs. Philly rivalry is going to be absolutely amazing in the coming years). Although there is room for improvement, Sixers fans should be extremely hopeful for the next decade, this is going to be a lot of fun.
