5 Premier League Goalies to Watch this season

The start of England’s chief soccer league is a mere eight days away and each of the nation’s top clubs are off preparing for the upcoming season. A great starting eleven starts in with the net-minder, every team needs a strong goalie to keep them in close games and save the day. Here is the first installment of premier league top 5s as we look at the Premier League’s 5 best goaltenders.

5.) Alisson Becker Liverpool

Arguably one of the biggest reasons for Brazil’s success at the World Cup was from Liverpool’s recent acquisition Alisson Becker. There have been questions surrounding the goalie situation at Anfield but without a doubt Alisson is best of the group and should be an immediate impact player as Liverpool makes a serious run for the league title.

4.) Ederson Manchester City

Manchester City’s championship season was in large part due to the lockdown defense they got from Ederson game in and game out. City has a great core defense of Otamendi and Stones but if City has any hopes of a season like last year’s, they’ll need another consistent performance from their trusty Brazilian keeper.

3.) Hugo Lloris Tottenham

Like Alisson Becker, Lloris played a huge role in his country’s success at the World Cup. France ultimately lifted the trophy after defeating Croatia in the finals but without Lloris, France would end up no where near the top. On multiple occasions, it was Hugo’s diving save that kept the blues in the match. This is going to be a big season for the Spurs as they fly under a lot of expert’s lists for title contenders. If Lloris can continue his form into the season, he’s an early season favorite for keeper of the league.

2.) Thibaut Courtois Chelsea

Courtois didn’t have the best showing for Belgium at the WC, there was the occasional great save but for the most part, we’ll need to see a new and improved Thibaut if Chelsea want any hope of a championship season. He’s been the target of many big name clubs and could exit the prem but for now Thibaut will hope to regain his world class form and help lead Chelsea to victory.

1.) David De Gea Manchester Utd.

De Gea is the consensus number one keeper in the premier league. He’s been the main reason why Manchester Utd. has been able to stay relevant over the past few seasons. Similar to Courtois, he’s another player that could be on his way out according to transfer rumors but I expect nothing but clean sheets coming from Courtois this season.
