The two greatest words in sports… “Game Seven”
The Sixers’ win at home last night clinched just that, a game seven.
After two ugly back to back losses in Games 4 and 5, the Sixers avenge their previous mediocrity with a dominating win over the Raptors. As a diehard fan, I don’t know what to make of this team. One day they’ll absolutely dominate and look like just about the second best team in the NBA as they have in Games 3 and 6 or they play turnover-prone, sloppy, lethargic basketball as they have the other games.
Ben Simmons, after a scoring drought and overall lack of quality play in the first five games, really broke out of his funk and played aggressively from tip off to the final buzzer. He finished the game with 21 points(more than his combined total of Game 4 AND Game 5.
With Embiid struggling especially in the first half, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes, Simmons and (as always) Jimmy Butler stepped up to propel this team to victory. Butler finished the game as the team’s leading scorer with 25 points on 9-18 shooting.
Similar to the commanding Game 3 win, the Sixers held a large lead going into halftime 58-43, capitalized with a Butler breakaway steal in the final seconds of the half, but the Raptors stormed back in the early parts of the fourth quarter. After Embiid sat following his third flagrant foul(one more and he receives a one game suspension), the Raptors went on a 12-0 run to turn the 19 point lead into a 7 point one.
However the Sixers were able to regain their double digit lead and held it until the end of the game as they came out victorious by a score of 112 to 101.
Game Seven will be played in Toronto, a place where the Sixers haven’t seen much success. Will the “Underdog Magic” spur a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals? All I ask Sixers fan to do, as I’ve been saying every year, Trust The Process.
